The design of the Canyon store is centered around the idea of blending new and old. Housed within a building from the 80s, the city's restrictions on construction limited the changes that could be made to the exterior. However, the interior was transformed to create a space that reflects the designer's vision. The entrance was pushed back 3 meters from its original location, creating a two-story structured "Canyon" between the building facade and the entrance.
The unique feature of the Canyon store lies in its integration of fashion and abandonment. Products from the store are processed with a mixture of cement and acrylic, giving them a motley and hardened appearance. This juxtaposition of soft and fresh products with the hardened context of cement and acrylic creates a visually striking display. It not only represents the concept of "abandoned" but also signifies the passage of time.
Ann Yu's design successfully merges the worlds of architecture and fine arts. The Canyon store is a testament to the designer's ability to create a commercial space that showcases unique concepts and aesthetics. By incorporating elements of new and old, fashion and abandonment, the store offers customers an immersive and visually stimulating shopping experience.
The Canyon concept store has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges the store's outstanding creativity and resourcefulness. The Canyon store showcases the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to the improvement of quality of life and making the world a better place.
